Description of my blog

While summer is still around I thought that it was about time for a bit of a catch up.

June's showcases at Southwark Playhouse and July's at Soho went really well.  Lizzie Newman you are great and appreciated!  Rachel Parish you are much thanked too!  We were delighted to have renowned agents and plenty of film-makers, directors and producers in attendance at each performance.  Work was forthcoming for some and representation offered to others.  The standard was noted as good and the showcase was such a success that it seemed like a great idea to put on another performance and that's what is coming up.

Before I launch into info about that I thought I'd comment on a few events:

RECENT PAST - RECALLING AND RECOMMENDING

Hello! My name is Barbara and I am one of the players here on Pinewood Net. I specialise in Musical Theatre but have a keen interest in acting for film. Katy knows me very well, some of you know me a little bit and most of you probably don't. I was out of the country so unfortunately missed the Showcases but I hope to more active in Pinewood Net for the rest of this year!

My part-time job is designing websites and I wanted to write a small article on having an Internet Profile.

I made my own website about one year ago (www.barbaralanik.com)  and find it invaluable. Your personal website is (appart from websites and groups such as Pinewood Net, Casting Call Pro or Spotlight) the one place on the Internet which gives the correct and relevant information regarding your craft, your past, present and future projects and ambitions. It really let's your individualtiy and professionalism shine through as you create YOUR OWN design to reflect and present yourself.

It is a very powerful promotional tool.

I have my own business cards (another very imporart tool) which only state my name, my profession, email address, mobile number and my website. Instead of possible employers and contacts searching the Internet for photos and information about myself, they can directly visit my page, instead of ending up on Facebook or Myspace which, let's face it, are NOT the best places to show off professionalism.

Such networking websites ARE great to have as they put you all over the Internet and connect you to not only your friends but to many people in the industry. They also make you a very REAL person. However, they must be kept updated and only represent you in the best possible light. Your photos must show you off and you need to always remove tags that are not flattering. (usually they are not! lol) And you can use those sites to further promote your official website and send people to your gallery, showreel, CV and agent details.

If you have any further questions regarding any of this, let me know! I am more than happy to help.

Im just thinking about how soon we get to do the showcase all over again! Very exciting! I thought the last showcase was a great success and everyone really stepped up their game for the second night. I cant wait to get to The Soho Theatre and show them what were made of!

Lucy is very excited to have been put in touch with Pinewood Net and to be taking part in this showcase at the Suothwark Playhouse and Soho Theatre.

She has been very busy working in film and television for five years and enjoyed a wide variety of character roles.  She loves both classical and contemporary writing, and is passionate about both comedy and drama.

Things have been busy and exciting for Pinewood Net recently!  Our 'family' is expanding and  they are all wished such 'problems' as getting very busy with too much work to choose from and dilemas over which is the better lead role to take between the clashing dates of their new upcoming feature films!

Our talented actors on board for our up-coming showcase, directed by Elizabeth Newman are as follows:

Katie Alexandra, Jude Awusu Achiaw, Mark Bak, Amy Barnes, Dan Coffey, Lisa Devlin, Anna Friend, Hari Hickinson, Petroula Kanet-Dimmer, Michael Katz, Alessandra Lee, Lucy laVey, Shelley Moulden, Katy Newell, Tessa Nicholson, Katy Poulter, Sakuntala Ramanee, Paul Stephen Williams & Steve Willis

PINEWOOD NET PRODUCTION

Anyone who knows her will know that Pinewood Net's Katie Alexandra is full of energy, full of great ideas and a great person to work with on whatever project has been decided upon.  We have had a great time this month bouncing ideas around for a show that we are putting on in the summer.  We are both acting in it as well as producing it together.  We have a great venue lined up and either one of us will post more details as the project develops.

NEW PRODUCTION COMPANY

Pinewood Net 2009

The group we know as Pinewood Net was established, as you know, to create work and get work for it's members and while I was working on a film I am doing a couple of weeks ago a very clear new plan came into view.

THE BACKGROUND & PEOPLE THAT GAVE RISE TO THE PLAN:
Before the first shot of the day I had a telephone call from an editor friend who has some very high profile listings on IMDB. After we chatted for a few minutes I felt as though it was only yesterday that we were last in touch. He'd married the girl I had hoped he would marry, they have lovely children and he has more work than one can shake a stick at.

Following the phone call the quality of the make-up artist came into full view! She was of the standard to which I had previously taken for granted and I breathed a sigh of relief as she played her equal share in assisting me to bring the full flavour of Angela, the very unsavoury character, I am playing - sweetness and light with pure bitch running through! Now actually all Laura (Phipps) did was to do some very beautiful make-up that I would be proud to wear as myself I just don't ordinarily wear any make-up at all and considered, with my confidence in her competence that she had 'made' Angela as much for me as for herself as for the viewer. I was free to think of nothing else but my character and it was great!
